We’re finally into September. Two Monday’s from now, I hope to be handing in my completed first draft to my advisors. Of course, after setting a schedule with my advisor, I immediately took off all the urgency I’d created and I went back to slacking. Hopefully I’ll be productive over the course of the next 10 days instead of just the last 3 or 4.
- Coldplay – “The Hardest Part” X&Y
- America – “Ventura Highway” History: America’s Greatest Hits
- John Mellencamp – “Hurt So Good” The Best That I Could Do
- Wilco – “More Like The Moon” More Like The Moon EP
- Red Hot Chili Peppers – “I Could Die For You” By The Way
- Ozzy Osbourne – “Dreamer” Down To Earth
- Wilco – “You And I” Wilco (The Album)
- The Nadas – “New Start” New Start
- Petey Pablo – “Raise Up” Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry
- The Nadas – “Where I’m Going” New Start
Petey Pablo sure is an interesting contrast in between two Nadas’ songs.

I’ve moved all my stuff to where I’ll be staying for the next 5-6 weeks or so. Right now, I’m alone until Zed and Lenore get back from Canada. I’m aiming for having my first draft completed on the 14th, so if anyone wants to have a look, let me know and I’ll post it for download or something.

Yesterday, while I was in the Limerick City Library I was taking pictures of a newspaper called “The Gaelic Athlete”. With the advent of digital photography, more and more archives and museums allow you to take photos of things for later use. This helped me a ton because I had just the afternoon to see as much as I could. I just skimmed the page and took a picture of anything that looked relevant.

One of the times I set my camera down it was still on. I could see on the screen that I had accidentally framed a pretty good picture, so I carefully held the camera in place and took it.

If you see a picture to take, take it, because you can never take that same shot again.
On my way out of town, I walked along the River Shannon and got a picture of it as well. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to the castle pictured here. Maybe I’ll make it back before I leave.

Yesterday for my research, I went down to Limerick to view a collection of old newspapers about the GAA. Luckily, Iarnród Éireann [Irish Rail] had cheap fares on special, so I only spent €20 round-trip. I got up at 7:30, was at Heuston Station by 8:30, and the train left about 9:20. I was in Limerick for lunch and spend the afternoon in the library. My train back left at 7:50, and I was home by 11.
- The Polyphonic Spree – “Section 12 (Hold Me Now)” Together We’re Heavy
- Frou Frou – “Let Go” Garden State Soundtrack
- Foo Fighters – “On The Mend” In Your Honor
- Wilco – “Say You Miss Me [Live]” Live At The Troubadour (11-12-96)
- Coldplay – “X&Y” X&Y
- Explosions in the Sky – “The Birth and Death of The Day” All The Sudden I Miss Everyone
- The Dead Weather – “Will There Be Enough Water?” Horehound
- Korn – “For No One” See You On The Other Side
- Steve Miller Band – “Jet Airliner” Young Hearts
- Wilco – “I Got You (At The End of The Century)” Being There
I see the double dose of Wilco as a good omen. I’m seeing them in concert this Thursday. In other concert related news, I found out that the Explosions in the Sky concert I wanted to see in Belfast is the same day as the All-Ireland Hurling Final. I guess I’ll have to find another time to see Explosions in the Sky, because I’m not missing the All-Ireland.

The lease at my current apartment is up at the end of the month. I would advise you not to send any cards or packages. I’m working on moving in with some rugby guys for the last month, and if need be I can live on the couch at John’s new place. But either way, I won’t be here much longer to get new mail.

Our softball team – the Suspects – has two sides. The Usual Suspects play in Division 1, and that’s my normal team. The Deadly Suspects play in Divison 2. They were short a player last night, and they called me to come sub-in for them. Players from a higher division can play in a lower division upto 3 times. This was the second time I subbed; the first time was back sometime around June when I played shortstop. Last night, however, I was asked to pitch. I’ve never pitched slow-pitch before, but I gave it a go anyway. As they say here, I played a blinder. Keep reading →
